i unwrapped a spitfire a few days ago, now i have started painting the texture for the plane, just started today, nothing fancy yet, i have the spec and bump map as well, but i still need to paint the panel lines for the plane, which i think is gonna be painful, and it’s gonna make or break the texture, very important. and gonna paint in a little rust rust, some scratches, dirt and stuff like that, and have to tweak the shader a lot.

here’s the diffuse map

and some test renders

hey, again. this is just a project for texturing class, basically just to unwrap a plane, texture it, and light it. i just started today, it took me a few hours to unwrap this plane, i’m not very used to unwrapping stuff, but i have to say it’s kinda boring and tedious at first, but when i really got into it i find it really fun actually, but anyway it took some work.

this is the UV map

UV-stamp

this is the low-res version of it, it is gonna be a 4k texture map (4096 pixels by 4096 pixels), i would love to optimize the space a lot more and i know i can but i have to figure out how to select UV through many object, stupid XSI won’t let me do it :(

here’s some umm previews of the plane, just basic unwrapping map, nothing fancy, well it’s kinda fancy.

anyway if you got any suggestions on how i can do better please do post it, i wanna know what you have to say :) well cheers, more to come later.

so what i’ve been doing this weekend is playing or learning boujou and nuke.

let’s talk about boujou first since I leaned it first. I really like the program, just now easy and simple the interface is, and it’s really easy to use as well. and it usually does a good job of tracking the camera and what not, but then again I mean it’s an algorithm going through and doing it, it’s not smart, not by a long long shot, so it does require some clean up form time to time, and it screws up royally at times as well. anyway so i think it’s a very valuable software and i will definitely keep it around and will dug deeper into it when needed but i feel i can handle simple camera tracking and matchmoving shots.

okay now onto nuke we go, now everyone knows nuke the incredible and amazing compositing software that everyone uses on all the big movies. and i have to say, it is an awesome piece of software, the interface is great, the nodes are really powerful and useful, even though it’s not that user friendly to use, but i feel it’s still easy to get a grasp on. for me coming from fusion which is another node based compositing software it feels pretty similar yet still very very different, i personally like nuke better, i just find it more powerful even though i do sometimes miss the fusion interface, and nuke i think is somewhat slow, maybe it’s just me, but anyway, i think i’ll be moving my compositing pipeline over to nuke, but i will keep fusion for smaller and less intensive stuff. outpu.0022

just a frame from the nuke compositing DVD from gnomon workshop which i love, just learning the basics for now, still got a long long long long way to go XD

hello to those poor souls who are reading this blog, long time no post, here’s just a render of my robotic animal done for school, nothing fancy really, modeled both in XSI and 3ds max 8. rendered in the crappy XSI mental ray renderer, which i hate. enjoy
